Culturally Adjusted Picture Acuity Cards (Abstract)
Kimberley A. Beaudet, C.O., C.O.M.T., Larry Baitch, O.D., Ph.D. David T. Wheeler, M.D.

We designed, analyzed and tested a new set of picture acuity cards using images familiar to the Saudi patient population seen at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital (KKESH). The images favorably compared to traditional Allen pictures with respect to image size and spatial frequency content. The acuity measurements of 109 patients were obtained using both Allen and KKESH pictures. There were no significant differences between the two methods with respect to the presence or type of amblyopia. Compared to the standard Allen cards, culturally adjusted acuity cards provide comparable measures, yet are more clinically useful for this patient population.
