The Adjustable Faden Operation: A New Suggestion (Abstract)
Vincenzo Sarnicola, M.D.

There are advantages of Jampolsky's adjustable suture technique and Cuppers' faden operation. The author proposes the application of adjustable sutures to the faden operation. By modifying the crossing of Cuppers' sutures in order to allow the adjustment of the recession sutures he has found a way to combine the two techniques while maintaining the principles of the faden operation. The adjustable faden was used in 13 patients; eight large exotropias ( >60 prism diopters) in amblyopic eyes, 4 large unilateral DVD's (> 40 prism diopters) and one patient with nystagmus blockage and esotropia.

The results determined that the contribution of the myopexy was quite significant. Six patients required reductions of the weakening effect. In all cases that needed adjustment, the desired result was achieved.
