Sources in Modern Jewish History

David Sorkin, Series Editor

Since Modern Jewish History became a recognized discipline in colleges and universities only in the last three decades, it missed the paperback revolution of the 1960s. As a result, the wide range of sources available for other fields in history do not exist for teaching modern Jewish history. University level teachers are in desperate need of a broader selection of original sources in translation. This series aims to address this situation by shaping the ways that modern Jewish history is studied and taught. Each volume in this series will be an edited anthology of documentary sources on an important theme in the modern experience of Jews. The sources, when not originally in English, will be offered in fluent English translations, and all primary materials will be accompanied by annotations, critical notes, and scholarly introductions. The books in this series will be used for classroom teaching and will also be invaluable tools for scholars.
