Esotropia with High AC/A Ratio and Myopic Refractive Error (Abstract)
Libby Luttenbacher, C.O. R., Grey Weaver, Jr., M.D.
Accommodative esotropia is most commonly associated with a hyperopic refractive error in conjunction with a normal or high accommodative convergence-to-accommodation ratio. Eleven children exhibiting features of accommodative esotropia whose refractive errors were myopic are reviewed. Among the five patients with myopia and esotropia at near as a primary disorder, two had presented with the myopia and three had developed it later. Among the six patients having undergone horizontal rectus recession surgery, three had presented with the myopia and three had developed it at some point in their postoperative course. All patients responded to anti-accommodative therapy consisting of the use of +3.00 D. bifocal lenses.
