ART HISTORY / ARCHAEOLOGY / CLASSICS
“Getz-Gentle brings the sensitive aesthetics of an art historian to these
ancient objects.”
—Margaret Ellen Mayo, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
Pat Getz-Gentle provides a clear and detailed survey of the Cycladic period, an
early Bronze Age culture that thrived at the heart of the Aegean. In particular,
she emphasizes the steps leading to the iconic, reclining folded-arm figure that
uniquely defines the Cycladic era. Getz-Gentle also focuses on the personal aesthet-
ics of fifteen carvers, several of whom are identified and discussed in this volume.
New to this paperback edition is an expanded bibliography as well an addendum
with additional works Getz-Gentle has attributed to some of the fifteen Cycladic
sculptors she discusses in her book.

SLAVIC & EASTERN EUROPEAN STUDIES / LITERATURE & CRITICISM
“There is no . . . book that would be more useful to any scholar or student
interested in Pushkin.”
—Igor Nemirovsky,
The Russian Review
From its beginnings, Pushkin’s oeuvre has accommodated numerous, often com-
peting readings. This book is further testimony to the continuing complexity of
Russia’s preeminent writer: his place in the literary and cultural cosmos, his rela-
tionship to his Russian predecessors and contemporaries, and his reception and
interpretation at various points in history.
“The collection is indeed wide-ranging, with a group of articles on the history of
Pushkin scholarship, his biography, textology, and his manuscripts and a group on
form, including one each on poetic form, lyric, the narrative poem, drama, prose,
and fictive vs. non-fictive prose.”—Katya Hokanson,
Slavic and European Journal
“The brilliance of
The Pushkin Handbook
is that it brings together some of the best
Pushkinists from both continents under one cover, juxtaposing approaches, ideas,
and even languages.”—Angela Brintlinger,
Canadian Slavonic Papers
