Coming Home to Door
Vignettes and Recipes Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Door County Literary Guild
Edited by Mary “Casey” Martin
Twelve writers create members of a fictional Door County book club and share their delicious recipes
What better way to get twelve different characters than to have twelve different writers create them? Casey Martin brings her Door County Literary Guild to life in this collaborative project, recruiting each writer to create a chapter independently of the others, without seeing the entire book until months later. The pieces stand on their own and retain the writer’s distinct style and voice, but are connected through one concept—the members belong to the same club. Coming Home to Door reveals the characters one by one, as they act as hostess for the monthly book club meetings, sharing stories and recipes. Very different fictional women come together through their love of books and become lifelong friends.
Mary “Casey” Martin is a photographer, poet, writer, publisher of Home Brew Press, and owner of Martin Communications & Marketing—a public relations and design agency. Her first collaborative effort, the poetry of cold: a collection of writings about winter, wolves & love, received the Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Accomplishment in the Writer’s Digest 1997 National Self-Publishing Competition. Born and raised on the Door Peninsula, she divides her time between Egg Harbor and Wisconsin Rapids.
